Jesse Morrow and I have a musical relationship that spans over a decade, playing together in a plethora of different bands and musical situations. In all these varied configurations, Jesse brings his own distinctive way of playing which is truly refreshing in this world where imitation is often favored over artistic innovation. A singular voice crafted from personal invention who never opts for the derivative path, his rhythmic juking, rumbling strong sound, savage bow work, intense propulsion and open adventurous spirit make Morrow a consummate creative collaborator.

This past year we were blessed to play many outside, masked duo gigs throughout the pandemic. The frequent playing together during this fragile, uncertain state of the world accelerated our evolution and a sense of urgency prevailed in the music. Often on those gigs, we were playing very open form tunes, examing them differently each time we played them, using them as launching pads towards waves of pure improvising. Rather than try to record what we were doing on those gigs, we went a different route and recorded straight improvised pieces and conceptual compositions on "Things Like the Truth". No effects were utilized for the bass or guitar which has been a fixture of our recent performances. This stripped-down approach kept us present and vigilant and challenged us to articulate the same breath of textures without the use of electronic effects. This record documents the mutual influence and respect of peers openly developing a language and creating form and methods of interaction over time and in these preserved moments. CA
